Food for thought...
Received this in an email from a friend of mine and found it interesting and wanted to share it with everyone:
The Denver Post
THINK ABOUT THIS FOR A MOMENT. Denver Post:This text is from a county emergency manager out in the central part of Colorado after todays snowstorm.
WEATHER BULLETIN-Up here, in the Northern Plains, we just recovered from a Historic event--- may I even say a "Weather Event" of "Biblical Proportions" --- with a historic blizzard of up to 44" inches of snow and winds to 90 MPH that broke trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed ALL roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to 10's of thousands. FYI:George Bush did not come.FEMA did nothing. No one howled for the government. No one blamed the government. No one even uttered an expletive on TV Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit. Our Mayor did not blame Bush or anyone else. Our Governor did not blame Bush or anyone else, either. CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX or NBC did not visit - or report on this category 5 snowstorm. Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards. No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House. No one looted.
Nobody - I mean Nobody demanded the government do something.Nobody expected the government to do anything, either. No Larry King, No Bill O'Rielly, No Oprah, No Chris Mathews and No Geraldo Rivera. No Shaun Penn, No Bar bara Striesand, No Hollywood types to be found.Nope, we just melted the snow for water.Sent out caravans of SUV's to pluck people out of snow engulfed cars. The truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks and didn't ask for a penny. Local restaurants made food and the police and fire departments delivered it to the snowbound families. Families took in the stranded people - total strangers. We fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns. We put on extra layers of clothes because up here it is "Work or Die".We did not wait for some affirmative action government to get us out of a mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes for 'sittin at home' checks. Even though a Category "5" blizzard of this scale has never fallen this early, we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves. "In my many travels, I have noticed that once one gets north of about 48 degrees North Latitude, 90% of the world's social problems evaporate." It does seem that way, at least to me. I hope this gets passed on.Maybe SOME people will get the message. The world does Not owe you a living!
AMEN! I agree wholeheartedly. We all need to help eachother in times of crisis, but we should also be able to help ourselves.

I agree with some of it.but why when the person was on a roll did he bash people on welfare?what does that have to do with a storm.they know no one owes any one a living.but the truth is God put wefare there for those who need it if there is no other way.it is so sad that when a person is down they have to bash them.I feel sorry for the women out there who have little kids who get bashed for asking for help.guess others would rather see them do as andrya yeats did and drown their kids.so the poor goverment and the people who bitch all the time about wefare, or the other safety nets out there to help others. can not have to pay anymore for them.the fact is the people who run it down are mad cause they have to help pay but cant get it them selves.to who ever wrote it.I say "dont break your arm slapping your self on the back.all you did was bash people who dont desirve to be.who were already pushed far beyond their limits.yes good you did all these things your self.but thank God you could do for your self.but have compassion on those who cant.and Iam sure the whole story isnt out yet eather.with no lights and most likely no phones or internet just how were these good people going to ask for anything?they were just like all the rest of us would be.they headed to the phone to say hay our lights are out and we have no heat.but how would they get in touch with anyone?this guy who ever He is just bashed those poor people in the southern states who still have no homes and no place to go and land to build on but no way to do it.yes we should all do for our sleves.every one is only 2 pay checks from being on the street.maybe this guy will find out some day how it feels for him self.you can only under stand some one elses pain if you have gone though it your self.this guy has words to spout but he didnt think compelty about what he said.some of what he said is bull.the no one demaned 2,ooo debit cards.no one did it was set up to help those poor people.the truth is this guy is upset about all the money.most likely he would have liked to get his hands on some.what Im upset about is cause all the money that went to help the people wasnt even used to help the ones who needed it.its still lining some peoples pockets some place but not who it was ment for.now that is sad.I just had to say this cause none of those people he bashed or aimed it at deserve to be. just seen some thing on about the older people down south who still have no home to live in.they are still in tents some of them.also some who were able to have a trailor are still waiting for it all this time.he was cuting on welfare and the poor blacks and the poor whites who live down south, none of them asked for those storms to come and flood them out.and if indeed the problem would have been taken care of years ago they would have been ok when the flood did hit.but the places hit were mostly poor black parishes so the city and state didnt fix the levees.sorry so long.but I read it a few times before I seen what he was really saying. well love you girl take care.say do you have a wood stove?or a way to heat and keep your lights going if in case the weather gets wild down there?its getting wild every where.cal getting snow.and places that dont get deep snow.we need to be ready for anything.it looks like revlations every day is being played out on the news.God bless
I agree with some of what you are saying. There are lots of corrupt people in our government who are not getting the monies to the people who need it the most. There are many who need help who don't get it. I didn't mean to defend you or anyone with this post. I personally admire the people they have interviewed on t.v. after this snowstorm. Mostly the attitudes and the faith that they seemed to exhibit about the situation. Although, as you say this is only part of the story...
There are also many who could work and are unwilling to work or lazy. Trust me, I know of some in my own family and I am not mentioning any names. The lady that drowned her children suffered from postpartum depression and there were several people who should've helped her that were close to her who just ignored her. Also, postpartum depression can become worse with each subsequent child and that was also left unaddressed as she had 5 children. I feel sympathy for her and her husband, but also believe the situation could've been handled much differently. Her kids would probably still be alive today if it were...
I have empathy for the people in New Orleans and agree with some of what you say also. Although that is another problem that should've been repaired before it happened. I don't think they should rebuild there. If there is a way for them to relocate or help the people find somewhere else to go, I think they should because you can't trust those levvies and the location of New Orleans is not in the most ideal spot. However, It is their life and whatever they decide to do is up to them. I think the government let all of them down.
I guess that is all I have to say about this situation. I don't necessarily agree with all the views portrayed here, but I do agree with the attitude of taking care of yourself and helping others in time of need.
